NEET UG to move to computer-based test mode from 2027, Education Minister announces
On 15 May 2026 the Union Education Minister said NEET (UG) will move from the OMR pen-and-paper format to computer-based test (CBT) mode from 2027. NTA has not yet issued the 2027 notification.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced on 15 May 2026 that NEET (UG) will shift from the existing OMR-based pen-and-paper format to Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode from next year. This makes NEET (UG) 2027 the first cycle expected to be held on computers. The announcement was part of reform measures that followed the cancellation of the 3 May 2026 exam over an alleged paper leak. The 2026 re-examination on 21 June 2026 was still held on paper.
What this means for 2027 aspirants:
- Questions will be answered on a computer at a test centre instead of on an OMR sheet.
- Exam dates, number of shifts, centres and the scoring method for 2027 have not been officially notified.
- No NEET (UG) 2027 information bulletin had appeared on the NTA website as of 17 October 2026.
What to do next: start taking full-length mock tests on a computer screen to get used to on-screen reading, navigation, marking questions for review and managing time. Watch nta.ac.in and neet.nta.nic.in for the official NEET (UG) 2027 notification and information bulletin.
